Mike Skubal

Mike Skubal Mike Skubal Mike Skubal is a Hodag. He graduated from Rhinelander Union High School, received a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Communication from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, and earned a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was a professional actor for many years, working in theater, independent films, and commercials, moving later to directing, and playwriting. After returning to his hometown, Mike operated the Logging Museum, wrote for the old Rhinelander Daily News as a reporter and columnist, and taught at Nicolet College. The “Old Man” series published by Hodag Press includes: The Outhouse Papers, 2023 and The Woodenhead, 2024. Mike’s other books include Mosaic, 2014 and The Group Home, 2016. He currently resides in Rhinelander, Wisconsin.


Kurt Kortenhof

Kurt Kortenhof, author of Long Live the Hodag was raised in Sugar Camp, a small community seven miles north of Rhinelander, Wisconsin. He graduated from Three Lakes High School in 1989. He earned a BA in history in 1993 and an MA in American history in 1996 both from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire. In addition to his studies at UW - Eau Claire, Kurt has taken courses at the University of Alaska - Anchorage and graduate courses at Villanova University and at the University of Delaware. He has worked as a contributing editor for The History Channel Magazine and currently teaches history at Saint Paul College in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He lives with his wife Jill and his daughter Megan and son Max in Savage, Minnesota.
